Description (Image 229 of 365)
The evenings here in Indiana feel perfect. Even though it still reaches the 90s, the evenings feel like a comfortable low 80. There’s a breeze. The sky is colorful. Kids are back in school. We anticipate fall coming by sitting outside just a little longer, absorbing these last few weeks of warmth.
Technical
When your camera looks at a scene, it tends to expose either for the foreground or background. It’s very difficult to get an overall exposed image when the two are in different lighting.
This makes it easier to create this effect. I simply exposed for the background which is sunny and bright. I then dialed up my shutter speed a notch faster than my AV told me. This allows less light in, darkening the image overall.
Since the sky is so bright, it actually brings out more color and detail when darker. The subject is guaranteed to be a silhouette.
